Legendary Journeys: The Eye of Baal

Farmoor

During the Age of Enlightenment, the Tamarasians, original inhabitants of Farmoor, had become conceited. They believe they were more powerful than the gods who created them. As a result, they turned their backs on the gods. This angered Hecate. He wanted to destroy the ungrateful children at once. Aten, being the caring mother that she is, intervened and asked that Hecate give their children a chance to redeem themselves. So, he did. He allowed them to live and gave them “rules” to follow. Yet, the Tamarasians continued to see themselves as gods and refused to obey.

Magul found a young Tamarasian girl, Pyrophia, to be most desirable and thought of a way to create his own children. One night, he took the form of a man and visited Pyrophia. This continued for several weeks. After Pyrophia had become with child, he revealed his true form and informed her that she will birth him a child. Abhorred by Magul’s grotesque appearance and hurt by the deceit, she requested immortal life be granted to her for birthing the child of a god. Hecate asked the Tamarasians to kill Pyrophia to prevent what Magul was attempting to test them. Once again, they refused to obey. They told Hecate it was his problem.

Magul did not have the ability to grant true immortality that was within Hecate’s rule, but agreed to do so anyways. She gave birth to Baazetu. Magul kept his promise by granting her a life of undeath and enslaved her as his concubine. She is the mother of all undead and other foul denizens of Farmoor. As a result of this “immortality”, Pyrophia has become bitter to all life and seeks to destroy it so they, too, can share in her misery.

Magul was not allowed to create any creatures on Farmoor like his siblings and parents. Hecate and Aten were afraid of what he might create. By doing what he did to birth Baazetu, he disobeyed his parents. For this, he was punished. Aten gave the Cardinal Wizards (through a dream) the ability to enslave Baazetu and Pyrophia within a magical orb. Hecate was to gather the undead and allow them to live in the Underworld.

The Cardinal Wizards put the dream into motion. They were only able to enslave Baazetu. Pyrophia escaped the capture by unleashing her undead children upon the wizards. Knowing they were going to die, the wizards fractured the orb into 4 pieces and magically transported them randomly about Farmoor. Magul watched his son’s enslavement and promised him he will release him.

Hecate allowed the actions to unfold. He then faced the Tamarasians in a fit of rage. For refusal to obey, he stamped Tamaras into the ground. Today, only the Desert of Sol remains where Hecate had stepped upon the world. Though Tamaras lie buried in sand, Pyrohpia and her children still live in the ancient city. All undead that roam Ro can be traced back to here
